The Street Machine Nationals Godfather...Harry Hibler

Did you know that the original idea for the Street Machine Nationals is widely attributed to Harry Hibler, legendary drag racer, Petersen Publishing manager, and SEMA Hall of Fame inductee (2002)? Hibler pitched the idea in 1976 as a means of generating magazine features and creating interest for Car Craft Magazine and other Petersen titles. The event, formally launched in 1977, was held in Indianapolis because nearly half of the Car Craft readership at the time lived within four or five hours of the Circle City. Harry Hibler
